Couple accused of stealing $19,000 form elderly man

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) – A Hilton Head Island couple is accused of cashing over $19,000 worth of forged checks from an elderly man they were caring for.

The Hilton Head Island Packet
reports Tamicha McKinnon and Kenneth Mitchell were employed as caregivers for 80-year-old Capt. Bob Bromage. Police say the two forged 22 checks from Bromage from October 2014 to January. A family member discovered the checks after looking at the man’s account activity and contacted authorities.

Police charged McKinnon with three counts of financial transaction fraud, forgery and exploitation of a vulnerable adult. Mitchell was charged with forgery and one count of financial transaction fraud. Both were arrested Tuesday night and are being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center.

It is unclear if McKinnon or Mitchell has a lawyer.
