Council candidate for Lake City accused of forging checks at convenience store

LAKE CITY, SC (WBTW) – A Lake City City Council candidate was arrested Thursday for multiple counts of forgery, city officials confirm.

Carl Edwards McFadden, Jr., 59, of Lake City, was arrested Thursday and charged with four counts of forgery less than $10,000. Coward Police Department charged McFadden with four counts of forgery, according to a press release from the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.

McFadden was arrested on Thursday following an investigation which began Oct. 25.

Officials with Coward City Hall confirm McFadden is running for the Lake City council seat.

According to the arrest warrants, between October 7 and 10, McFadden is alleged to have forged or counterfeited four checks totaling approximately $1477 through a convenience store located on U.S. Highway 52 in Coward.

McFadden was released from jail on a $5,000 bond.
