CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD): The search is on for a suspect who opened fire in Emanuel AME Church in downtown Charleston. The coroner is now on the scene.
According to Charleston County Dispatch, Charleston City Police, Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, EMS and Charleston City Fire responded to reports of a shooting at 9:05 Wednesday night.
News 2 learned during a press conference from the Charleston Police Department the shooting happened at 110 Calhoun Street.
Authorities are searching for a white man in his 20s. We’re told the suspect was wearing a gray sweatshirt, that was possibly a hoodie, and Timberland boots.
Just after 11 Wednesday night, our crews saw police escort a man in handcuffs. It’s unclear if that arrest is in connection with the shooting.
Our crews on the scene say a helicopter is overhead. The FBI and SLED are both on the scene. We’re working to learn the extend of any injuries.
