ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) – A coroner says the man who pleaded guilty in the 2008 shooting death of his ailing wife has been found dead inside a home in Lexington County.

Lexington County coroner Margaret Fisher said 79-year-old Gustave Adolph Hartner was identified Tuesday as a homicide victim from an April incident in the town of Gaston.
Fisher said Hartner’s death is a homicide. She said he died from a skull fracture secondary to blunt force trauma to the head after a beating. His body was found on April 28 and identified through X-rays.
Hartner pleaded guilty but mentally ill to voluntary manslaughter in 2009 for killing his ailing 90-year-old wife, Mildred Hartner. He was sentenced to seven years in prison and was released late last year.
