CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – A Conway woman is in jail after a child in her care found her lying in a bedroom surrounded by needles, spoons and blood. An incident report from Conway Police says Melissa Dawn Reagan, 41, of Conway, was arrested Wednesday night after Reagan’s wife explained to police why she had taken three children from the home.

Officers were called to the Conway home around 11 p.m. Wednesday and Reagan told officers her wife had taken three children from Reagan’s home without her permission. The report goes on to say that Reagan’s wife picked the children up after an 11-year-old girl called her to say she couldn’t wake Reagan.

The young girl told police that earlier in the day a man came to her home with a scale and a white powder and sold it to Reagan and two other adults in the house. All three adults then went into separate bathrooms and “were not seen for an unknown length of time,” the report states.

The girl told police she did call her stepmother when she went to check on Reagan and there was blood on the floor beside a towel, two needles and two spoons. The report says the 11-year-old could not wake Reagan and called her stepmom because she was scared.

Officers note that the two younger children were scared and not willing to speak with police except to say they knew “bad things” were going on in their home and they were afraid to be there.

The report states an officer noticed two spoons with used cotton balls “containing residue of some unknown substance consistent with that of heroin usage.”

The three children were taken into emergency protective custody and Reagan was arrested. Reagan faces one charge of unlawful neglect of a child. She was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center Thursday morning at 12:05 a.m. and was released the same day at 5:24 p.m. on a $20,000 bond.

According to online booking records, Reagan was arrested by South Carolina Highway Patrol in November 2015 for DUI, operation of unsafe vehicle and failure to appear.
