CONWAY (WBTW) — Conway Police arrested two men after they were involved in a crash near Coastal Carolina University and people on the scene told officers one of the men stuffed drugs inside a tree at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Officers responded to a call for a vehicle that may have been involved in a wreck and was possibly being driven by a drunk driver. When Conway officers arrived, they found a CCU Police officer who told them witnesses saw one of the men outside of the truck who was acting erratically and who may have put something in the tree.
When officers checked the tree, they say they found heroin, prescription medication, and a “green leafy substance” along with a pipe.
Police arrested 19-year-old Justin Ward of Andrews and 28-year-old David Helton of Myrtle Beach. Each faces several drug possession charges, and Helton was also charged with driving under suspension. Neither man was found to be impaired on the scene, said officers.
Ward got out of jail on bond on Saturday, and Helton remains in jail.
