CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – A Conway mother was arrested Tuesday after police said she left her 3-year-old child sleeping in a vehicle while she was inside a home.

According to a Horry County police report, the boyfriend of Ashley Nicole Lee, 22, called police after he found her truck parked behind a house on Simpson Creek Drive in Loris around 8 a.m.

He said their 3-year-old son was asleep on the floorboard with the keys in the ignition and the engine running.

The boyfriend said he tried for 30-45 minutes to get Lee to come out of the house and later caught her climbing out of a window in the rear of the house.

According to the report, Lee changed her story several times with police when asked about her whereabouts all night.

The Department of Social Services was called and the child was placed in the custody of a grandmother.

Lee is charged with unlawful neglect of a child.
