Conway man takes taxi home after robbing Walgreens, police say

CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – A Conway man was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center about two hours after police say he robbed a Walgreens Pharmacy.

Captain Tammy Carter with Conway Police says officers were dispatched to the Walgreens at 1601 Church Street Friday morning around 1:41 a.m. in reference to an armed robbery. Employees of the store told police what the suspect looked like and that he had left the area in a taxi.

Police then called several taxi services in the Conway area and were able to find where the suspect was taken after the reported robbery, Captain Carter explains. Officers responded to the drop off location on Hemmingway Street and spoke with the homeowner.

The homeowner and taxi driver positively identified the suspect, Christopher Obrian Williams, 36, of Conway, who was located inside the home and was arrested for armed robbery.
