CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – A crash on Dongola Highway near Conway Sunday night killed one person, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Cpl. Sonny Collins says the crash involved one vehicle and happened around 10:30 p.m. Sunday night. The driver of a Dodge pick-up truck was traveling south on Dongola Highway when the vehicle veered off the left side of the road and crashed into a power pole.
Horry County Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler identified the driver as 25-year-old Scott Anderson, of Conway. Anderson was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, reports Cpl. Collins.
Horry County Fire Rescue responded to the crash and initially called for a helicopter for the rescue, but that flight was later canceled. Officials warned drivers of downed power lines because of the crash and urged homeowners to use flashlights rather than candles in case of a power outage.
