CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – A Conway man received a 25 year prison sentence for a 2014 Carolina Forest shooting.

According to a press release from Fifteenth Circuit Solicitor Jimmy Richardson, Delshawn Anthony Davis, 31, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the 2014 shooting death of a 26-year-old man outside a Carolina Forest apartment complex.

Davis pleaded guilty before his trial was set to begin Monday, said Nancy Livesay, the violent crimes solicitor who prosecuted the case for the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office. The Honorable Circuit Court Judge Larry Hyman sentenced Davis to 25 years in prison.

The 26-year-old victim, Antonio Dexter Smith, was shot four times on June 14, 2014, following an altercation in the parking lot of Canterbury Apartments in the Carolina Forest community, Livesay said. Davis surrendered to police three days later to face the charges.

Smith’s family spoke during the hearing Monday and Livesay said they were happy with the plea and sentence in the case.

“It’s terrible because two lives were ruined,” Livesay said. “It was the hard work by the Horry County Police Department that lead this case to a guilty plea today. We appreciate the hard work and long hours the officers spent investigating this case and bringing justice to the victim’s family.”
