CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – A Conway man has been arrested after allegedly assaulting his mother and sister and threatening to harm a baby.
According to an incident report from the Horry County Police Department, officers responded to a home on Bryants Landing Rd. in the Conway area in reference to a man, identified in the report as 19-year-old Tyrek Donnell Veerapen, allegedly assaulting his mother and sister and threatening to harm a three-month-old baby. Upon arriving, a responding officer says in the report he was able to hear Veerapen “screaming and yelling obscene language from the home.”
The officer reportedly attempted to call Veerapen’s name for him to come to the door, but he allegedly refused, the report said. The officer was then reportedly able to see two victims from the front door “motioning from the bedroom to come in.” The officer then reportedly asked one of the victims if he was allowed to enter the home. Veerapen’s mother reportedly said yes and his sister reportedly nodded her head.
The officer entered the home and reportedly followed Veerapen’s voice to the bedroom, the report also said. The officer tried to contact Veerapen through the door by talking to him. Veerapen allegedly refused to speak with the officer and come to the door to talk. Veerapen’s mother reportedly told police that she wanted to press charges for the assault and threatening to kill the baby with a rocker.
Veerapen allegedly strangled his sister “to the point where she could not breath[e] or speak,” according to the report. While taking with Veerapen’s mother, Veerapen reportedly open the door for “a brief amount of time” and an officer was able to grab the door handle before it locked and entered the room. The officer was able to place Veerapen under arrest after he allegedly resisted arrest.
