CONWAY, SC (WBTW)- Conway city leaders want to make the city more accessible to boats. Council voted on a motion Monday to build another floating dock on the Riverwalk.
Property Owner Joe Burroughs says the River City isn’t taking advantage of its most valuable resource.
“There’s nowhere to bring your family and dock and go eat,” he said
Conway already has two docks along the Riverwalk that hold three boats each, but Burroughs says that’s not enough.
“I believe we ought to have docks all the way down that waterfront” he stated.

“People are on that waterway all the time,” he explained “You can get to Conway by water from North Myrtle Beach and Georgetown.”
According to Burroughs, the docks would bring more business to the area.
“Having those docks there is going to generate perspective purchasers or tenants,” he said.
City Council agreed for the most part.
However, Council Member Jean Timbes said adding another dock would be like building the carport before the house.
“Its not an opposition to the dock. it’s an opposition to the timing of the dock,” said Timbes
She thinks more development needs to happen on the river first.
Council unanimously voted on a motion to set aside $100,000 in the budget for a floating dock that would hold 12 boats. That motion still needs to go through two readings before it is approved.
