Horry County Schools announced Monday that two area schools have officially been appointed new principals for the upcoming 2016-2017 school year.

Lee James, principal at Conway Middle School, will be the new principal of Conway High School. Velna Allen, who had been working as the interim principal at Conway High School, will return to her job as the supervisor for Horry County Schools secondary education schools and programs.

James was the principal at Conway Middle for one year and was previously the assistant principal at Green Sea Floyds High School. He has eight years of experience in the classroom as a math teacher at Loris Middle School and at Greenwood High School. James earned his master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of South Carolina and a bachelor’s degree in science from Lander University.

Christel Arnette will be the new principal at Myrtle Beach Primary School, the same school where she began her teaching career. Arnette was an assistant principal at St. James Elementary School for five years, and worked at Myrtle Beach Primary as a teacher, reading interventionist, and assistant principal for 17 years.  Arnette earned a master’s degree in education leadership and supervision and a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, both from the University of South Carolina.

School starts in less than one month and both new principals will transition to their new jobs this week.
