A group of local bikers are making sure children in Conway have the supplies they need for the new school year.
The Rivertown Riders held their first school supply giveaway in Collins Park on Saturday. They offered 400 bags filled with various school various items including paper, notebooks, pens, pencils and art supplies.
The bikers had been collecting school supplies and donations for the drive since January. They plan to donate any extra bags from the giveaway to schools in Conway.
“I at one time was a single mom. And this bag of supplies, although it totals $8 or $9, that’s $8 or $9 they can spend on an outfit for the child to go to school. Every little bit helps,” said Rivertown Riders secretary Kim Johnson.
The Rivertown Riders plan to make the giveaway an annual event.
