Convicted bank robbing teen arrested with teen girl for convenience store robbery

MURRELLS INLET, SC (WBTW) – Georgetown County deputies have arrested two people for the robbery of a Kangaroo store in Murrells Inlet in late March.

Public Information Officer Carrie Weaver with Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office says Barrett Hayes Coker, 18, of Marion, and Ruby Carson Frykenberg, 19, of Surfside Beach, have been jailed in connection with the crime. The duo was arrested at a home in Surfside Beach without incident, reports Weaver.

The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office say the Kangaroo Store located at 658 Wachesaw Road in Murrells Inlet was robbed at approximately 11:30 p.m. March 29.

Deputies say Coker and Frykenberg approached the front of the store where the employee was on the telephone and ordered the victim to enter the business. The duo then displayed what appeared to be a handgun and demanded money, deputies confirm. Coker and Frykenberg then ran out of the store and got into a car parked to the south of the building, a witness told deputies.

The witness was sitting at a traffic light and saw Coker and Frykenberg run out of the store toward the south end of the business and get into a vehicle. The witness followed the vehicle until the stop sign at Sunnyside Avenue, deputies say. At which time, a suspect in the passenger seat leaned out of the window and fired a handgun, the witness reported to deputies.

No one was injured during either incident.

Coker is charged with armed robbery while armed with a deadly weapon, attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Frykenberg is charged with accessory after the fact of a felony. Mugshots of the two suspects were not available at the time of this posting.

Barrett was arrested for an October 2014 bank robbery in Murrells Inlet along with another teen. He was sentenced to 7 years in prison, suspended to 1 year and 3 month plus probation.
