MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – A consent order filed Friday by the Coastal Conservation League and the SC Wildlife Federation will temporarily stop some of the construction on International Drive.
The document will halt any more filing or altering of any wetlands, the removal or clearing of any trees over six feet tall, and any more physical work or clearing on the Lewis Ocean Bay Preserve side of the project right of way.
The order was signed by Judge R. Bryan Harwell and there is no set date for the order to be lifted.
The Coastal Conservation League and the South Carolina Wildlife Federation filed a federal lawsuit to stop the paving of International Drive on Sept. 1.
The complaint challenges a permit issued in July in connection with paving a portion of International Drive and also the issuance of an environmental assessment that found the project would have no significant environmental impact.
Crews began work on International Drive on Aug. 22.
