CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – Dozens of concerned residents met on Saturday afternoon to discuss the city of Conway’s new traffic plans near their neighborhood. They are concerned about a new ALDI that will be built on the corner of Wild Wing Boulevard and Highway 501.
Residents were told the main entrance and exit to the grocery store would be on their residential street. However, those who are affected by the new traffic plan say they were not given proper notice and they are against the city’s plans. The meeting was called to gather everyone’s thoughts before they attend the next City of Conway Zoning meeting.
“Our plan is to gather as much support as we can,” said Barbara Eisenhardt. “There are hundreds, if not thousands, of people that are not only not interested, but are negatively impacted by the current plan they have,” added Eisenhardt.
The group’s main concerns deal with safety and the lack of notice from the city. Eisenhardt said the intersection already has too many accidents and this would make things worse.
The group has come up with alternative solutions they will present to city leaders. Eisenhardt said even if the residents don’t “win” this battle, she expects city leaders to listen to what Wild Wing Blvd. residents have to say about this issue.
A petition has been started by the residents who are against the project. For more information on the petition as well as remarks from city leaders, click here.
The residents have also created a Facebook page to create awareness and express concerns. You can find it here.
