CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – The CEO and founder of a North Carolina company which specializes in drug disposal was shot and wounded at the scene of a fire, and a teenager has been charged in the incident.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police report 74-year-old John W. Holaday of Disposerx was critically wounded just before 4 p.m. Monday as he stood near the scene of the fire in downtown Charlotte.
Police said Holaday was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
A news release says police filed multiple charges against the teenager, including attempted murder.
News outlets report the fire broke out around 3 p.m. at a restaurant on North College Street near the Bank of America Center. The Charlotte Fire Department said on Twitter Tuesday that the fire was accidental and started in the kitchen hood system.
