LEXINGTON (WBTW) – Coastal Carolina defeated Liberty 1-0 to win the Big South Championship Tournament on Saturday at Lexington County Baseball Stadium. The title is the Chanticleers’ first since 2012.

Michael Paez hit a home run in the third inning for the only run of the game. It was the lowest scoring championship game in league history.

Liberty threatened in the ninth with runners on first and second, but Tournament MVP Mike Morrison induced a game-ending double play. Not only did he pick up his eighth save of the season in the win, he also had a win in the opener and a save in the second round game.

The Chanticleers improve to 44-15 and, with its 2016 regular season title, wins their 30th conference baseball title (14 regular season and 14 tournament).

Coastal Carolina will learn is 2016 NCAA postseason fate either Sunday night and/or Monday afternoon. The 16 national seeds will be announced Sunday night and CCU is in the conversation to be one of those host teams. The complete NCAA Regional field will be announced Monday at noon
