Coastal Carolina heads to the NCAA tournament for the second straight year after the Chanticleer men beat Winthrop Sunday in the Big South final.

“It’s really exciting students really get amped up for it, I get really amped up for it. I love it anytime my little small school gets on that national stage,” said Jonathan Carter, a senior at CCU.

Carter spent his weekend cheering on Coastal Carolina in the Big South tournament. Monday, he made sure to highlight the team’s win to his tour group.

“Once we went to the HTC center I asked if they saw my voice laying around anywhere to help me find it because I lost it somewhere Friday night,” said Carter.

As soon as the victory was announced, Jim Rebeschke, the campus store manager, was on the phone ordering t-shirts.

“We already have the artwork pretty much finalized we just have to fill in the brackets. So as soon as we get the brackets finalized we’ll get a rush order in,” said Rebeschke.

But he isn’t the only one waiting for selection Sunday. A number of fans are waiting to see where the team will play.

Athletic Director Matt Hogue said it’s a big factor that will impact ticket sales. He said members of the athletic foundation, current season ticket holders and students will have the first shot at getting NCAA tickets from the allotment.

Last year, he said they were given about 400 tickets for premium seating. But he said fans can contact the ticket office to put their name on a waiting list.

“If it is in Charlotte I’ll definitely plan on going. If it’s further out, buddies of mine we’ve already talked about having a viewing party,” said Carter.

You can find out where Coastal will travel and who they will play during Sunday’s NCAA selection show on news 13 beginning at 6pm.
