CONWAY, S.C. (AP) – Coastal Carolina University is opening its new $16 million baseball stadium.
The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports that the Chanticleers open Springs Brooks Stadium in Conway on Friday as they play Old Dominion.
It took two years to build the new stadium, but the idea for a new ballpark goes back a decade.
Coach Gary Gilmore said that Coastal Carolina knew it needed a stadium back in 2005 when, as a top regional seed in the NCAA tournament, the Chanticleers were sent to Arizona State for the regional because they didn’t have facilities to host
The new stadium will seat 2,500 people with a capacity of almost 5,000 when standing room is included.
