CONWAY (WBTW) – Coastal Carolina made its return back to Springs Brooks Stadium on Monday afternoon after clinching a spot in the College World Series. The Chants will play in Omaha this weekend for the first time in school history.
Lots of fans gathered at the stadium to greet the Chanticleers when they got back to campus. For many players, the moment was unforgettable.
“We saw all these people and (Anthony) Marks said we’re going to let the freshman get off first, but then he saw all the people and he got so excited and wanted to greet them,” Chants’ closer Mike Morrison said. “The community around here is phenomenal, it’s everything Gilly (Coach Gilmore) describes when he recruits us here and it’s very special.”
The moment was also special for CCU Head Coach Gary Gilmore. The former Chanticleer player has been head coach at Coastal for the past 21 years.
“From a person that started out in his career and we might draw parents plus 20 people to see where Coastal has grown to, I’m just so happy,” Gilmore said. “I cant say enough about it, teal nation has grown leaps and bounds.”
