Coaches talk preseason pressure at Blitz Media Day

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – High school football practice begins in fewer than two weeks, and most Grand Strand and Pee Dee teams have worked hard all summer to get ready. The WBTW Sports crew held a “Blitz Media Day” event at Pelicans ballpark Monday night. Coaches and players from about 40 teams gathered at TicketReturn.com Field to take part.

After scores of interviews with coaches and players, it was all about preseason storylines. Every team has a little bit of a different outlook on the 2015-16 season. For some teams, it’s about maintaining high standards. When a team works so hard to build up a good tradition, that’s tough enough, but keeping it that way is just as challenging. WBTW spoke with a couple of coaches who are in that position.

“There’s always pressure, whether you’re coming off an 0-11 season, or a 12-0 season, but it’s more self-inflicted pressure than anything else,” states South Florence Head Coach David Prince. “We’ve gotten to a level that we expect to play at, and we just try to demand that every day with our kids on the field.”

Blitz football kicks off with the first practice of the season July 31 and team previews begin August 1. Plan for a Blitz Preview Show August 13 and high school football officially kicks off with Blitz Week 0 August 21.
