COWARD, S.C. (WBTW) – Two days ago, a 12-year-old boy died in an apparent accidental shooting in Lower Florence County.
Mason Powell and Cameron Coward started their friendship in the first grade.
Coward describes Powell by saying, “He was always fun, he liked to run around and play, he was talented, he liked to… he would go around and make you laugh.”
Coward’s mom says you didn’t see one without the other.
“We liked to ride dirt bikes and four wheelers.” Coward adds, “We would wreck all the time.”
“I used to go over his Aunt Tammy’s house. I used to go almost every day. Now I won’t be able to do that anymore,” Coward said.
Now he will cherish memories like the ones they made last summer.
Coward explained, “It was fun because Ras– the little one… he wanted to ride with us so we put him in between us. While I was driving I Mason was on the back holding on to him. It was fun.”
And honor a gift from mason.
“He went to a baseball game. He got it signed… well his Granddaddy did and he gave it to me.” Coward adds, “I know I’m not going to get rid of it that’s for sure.”The family set up a “go fund me” page to help pay for funeral expenses.
According to Carolina Funeral Home, the family has made funeral arrangements.
The family will receive friends from 6- 8 p.m. August 5, at Carolina Funeral Home in Scranton. The service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August, 6, at The Bible Temple in Coward with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
