CLEMSON – Clemson will open its NCAA tournament run on the West Coast this year. The Tigers begin play in the Fullerton region Friday.
Clemson (32-27) is the No. 3 seed in the region and will face No. 2 seed Arizona State in the first round Friday at 6 p.m. Cal State Fullerton is the region’s host and top seed. The Titans open against Pepperdine.
Clemson has faced Arizona State just four times, most recently in the 2010 College World Series. The Sun Devils were the No. 1 national seed that year. Clemson won 6-3 in the first-round matchup and went on to make the final four. Arizona State leads the all-time series 3-1.
This week’s trip marks Clemson’s first to the state of California since 1993. The Tigers have played just 12 games there in school history. They have 6-6 record.
