MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Myrtle Beach City leaders are getting ready for some construction along the Boardwalk.
The plan to extend the Boardwalk has been in the making for a while now, but now they are also looking to add a new park in the area.
The extension will add about the length of a football field to the Boardwalk, thanks to a partnership with Hilton.
City Planning Director Carol Coleman says the company is building an oceanfront timeshare hotel on 16th Avenue North, but as part of the deal, Hilton is footing a majority of the bill to make the Boardwalk extend just past 16th Avenue North.
“All of these businesses benefit when properties like this open,” said Coleman.
The city also plans to combine alleyways at 16th Avenue North, to create a new ocean-side park with vistas that extend all the way up to Chapin Park.
“Properties like this, I mean, they bring in that, they bring in amusement taxes, they bring in all sorts of revenue for the city,” said Coleman.
Right now, Coleman did not know when construction would begin.
