(FLORENCE, SC)

Florence city leaders broke ground Wednesday for a new gymnasium.

The 35,000 square foot facility will go up at the corner of Barnes and Sanborn Streets, just off East Evans Street in downtown Florence.

The complex will house three full-size basketball courts, a lobby, office space and program rooms.

The goal is to give the city’s youth and adult basketball programs a place to play and encourage sports tourism in the area.

Florence City Council approved $4.5 million dollars for the facility last year. The Doctors Bruce and Lee Foundation contributed another $750,000.
