DARLINGTON, S.C. (WBTW) – Officials with the city of Darlington are doing what they can to protect those who live there from mosquitos as well as diseases like West Nile and Zika.
The city hopes a new mosquito spraying truck will help them fight the bugs. The program was brought up during Monday’s city budget meeting, and officials there were pleased with this year’s plan.
The new truck will be used to spray the city each week. The spraying, which just got underway last week, will happen between 9 p.m. and 1 a.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays. Two days are needed in order to cover the entire city. Most of the workers involved have already worked a full shift that day before heading out to spray at night.
While the city does its part, others who live in Darlington are also doing what they can to protect their homes.
“We try to do what we can to pour out and excess water,” said Darlington resident Habibi McGill. “And we try to keep some mosquito spray with us all the time. It’s a lot.”
Officials hope that new sprayer will help them combat the bugs and keep residents safe from diseases like Zika.
