DARLINGTON, SC (WBTW) – An app that allows Darlington residents to report problems to city officials is now available.

The City of Darlington launched SeeClickFix on Tuesday. It aims to address citizens’ concerns in a timely and more effective manner. Through the app, residents can upload pictures of anything they think needs to be fixed or looked into by the city. That can be anything from yard debris, potholes, crooked sidewalks, or flooding. They can also report the location of the problem and can see if it has already been brought to the city’s attention. The request will then be routed to the right department. It will then get put onto the city’s schedule to be examined. The app also allows city officials to communicate with residents and notify them where they are in the cleanup process and when the problem has been fixed.

“So it’s not just a black hole where you call and never know what happened until it may or may not get fixed,” said Planning Director Lisa Chalian-Rock. “If It’s something that’s on the schedule for next year, we can let citizens know that. If we know that we’re waiting on this funding or that funding, we can let citizens know so at least they have some idea that they’re being heard.”

The app also benefits the city and makes it easier for officials to collect data and decided where their resources are best utilized. And now that hurricane season is here, flooding is an ongoing concern. The city hopes, with SeeClickFix and a new vacuum truck, crews will be able to pinpoint problem areas faster and cleanup more effectively.

“It would be convenient, I think, if people are tracking that online to see there’s a ton of debris on North Main Street and there’s not really any on Chestnut so we need to go on North Main with the debris truck so that we can better use the resources that we have,” Chalian-Rock said.

SeeClickFix cost the city fewer than $5,000 and is free to download. It can also be accessed on the city’s website
