MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW)- Earlier this year, Myrtle Beach City council voted to make changes to parking along the Golden Mile Boulevard from 31st Ave. North to 82nd Ave on Ocean Boulevard.
Those who live along the street ends have complained for years about the influx of cars that are sometimes parked in their yards or in their driveways.
However, the changes have led to complaints from non-city residents over having the pay for parking. Those concerns came up once again at a Town Hall Tuesday night.
City leaders say they understand everyone isn’t happy but the goal was to get traffic from that area. However, they now consider other alternatives to accommodate everyone.
“We don’t have a definite plan at this point but one possibility would be to pay the equivalent amount of whatever your city car taxes would be and that would be a decal qualifier. We haven’t worked out all the details yet,” City Spokesperson Mark Kruea said.
Currently city residents have to register for a decal to park in designated spaces along the Ocean Blvd., and visitors will pay $2 per hour or $10 per day to park at public beach access points.
