MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – City Council approved an ordinance Tuesday that defines an extraordinary event.
“It’s something that exceeds our capacity, causes issues for public said,” described Myrtle Beach Spokesperson Mark Kruea.
According to the ordinance, appearances by state-wide, national or international elected officials would automatically qualify as an extraordinary event. City council also passed a separate resolution to declare Country Music Fest and Memorial Day Bike Fest an extraordinary event.
“We’ve considered the Memorial Day Bike Fest an extraordinary event for 20 years, since the late 90’s when it began to get big,” said Kruea.
The proposed ordinance states that during an extraordinary event, the City Manager has authority to do the following…
– Hire temporary security officers
– Require businesses in the area to employ private security officers
– Use public, private property when there is a compelling need to protect lives, health and welfare.
– Contract to tow and store vehicles
– Temporarily close businesses in affected areas between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.
– Temporarily close streets and sidewalks in affected areas
Kruea told News 13 the proposal defining riots and unlawful assemblies was tabled for another date.
