BOLIVIA, NC (WBTW) – Brunswick County Emergency Services says Antioch Church on Midway Road in Bolivia is open to all residents who live near the large woods fire off Highway 211 and feel they may be in danger.
The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office reports Hwy 211 is now open in Bolivia as firefighters continue to battle a large woods fire Tuesday evening. The only road closure reported by the sheriff’s office is on Gilbert Road between Midway and Clemmons.
Drivers are asked to avoid the area as multiple crews work to control the blaze.
The South Brunswick Charter School posted photos to the school’s Facebook page, thanking local emergency workers for keeping the students and staff safe.
According to reports from the sheriff’s office, Brunswick County Emergency Medical Services, Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, Brunswick County Emergency Management, Bolivia Fire Department, North Carolina Forest Service, and emergency crews from Oak Island, Sunset Harbor and St. James are responding to the fire.
The initial call in reference to the fire was received around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to call records from the sheriff’s office. Fire officials have not commented on what caused the fire or how many acres are currently burning. As details regarding the fire are released by officials, News13 will update this article.
