It’s easy to say, out with the old and in with the new without looking back.

“There were two hospitals in our county.  This county had two facilities and both were struggling…the communities came together to build this facility,” mentioned Ronnie Daves, CEO of Carolinas Hospital System Marion.

Nearly 20 years after the hospital was built Carolinas Hospital Systems Marion will soon open the door to its latest chapter.

“We are going to update the floors and counter tops and stuff,” said Daves as he walked through the ER.

“This facility was built in 1997. We see about 21,000 patients a year through our ER, so it’s just a little wore out now.  So it’s just time to update it,” he added.

It’s a $750,000 renovation to its emergency room, from the floor up.

“This is a four bay area that is separated by curtains.  Curtains are not sound proof and don’t feel very private…so we are going to put hard walls there and doors and stuff,” Daves pointed out.

With a rise in ER visits over the years and some of the state’s rural hospitals struggling more recently.

Judging this book by its cover, wouldn’t be half bad.

“While you are talking about efficiencies you might as well make things look a little bit better…so it’s just a little bit of a thing that goes hand and hand,” explained Daves.

The outpatient surgery department has moved to the second floor, while a temporary ER has moved in its place.

Construction will start on Wednesday and take up to three months to complete.

The hospital is also offering a 30 minute pledge so patients won’t have to wait long for care.
