CHESTERFIELD, SC (WBTW) – The Chesterfield County mother charged in connection with the death of her daughter did not attend her hearing Thursday morning.
Breanna Denise Lewis has been charged with homicide by child abuse in connection to the death of her 11-month-old baby girl, Harlee Lane Lewis, according to the Chesterfield County Fourth Judicial Circuit Public Index.
The mother reported she was attacked and her daughter was kidnapped May 29. Hours after an AMBER Alert was issued for the little girl, Harlee Lane Lewis’ body was found in a diaper box in a wooded area roughly 1,000 yards from Breanna Lewis’ home.
Deputy Solicitor Kernard E. Redmond confirmed Lewis was scheduled to appear in court for a bond hearing Thursday morning. However, Lewis’ attorney was in court without her and requested a new date for the bond hearing.
“I do waive Ms. Lewis’ presence at this time, and I’m going to waive bond hearing at this time and reserve the right to come back at a later date to seek the court order for bond,” the attorney requested.
Before addressing Lewis’ lawyer, the judge reminded the media in the courtroom of the gag order that is in place which stops anyone from speaking about the case in any way. He then acknowledged Lewis’ desire to waive the hearing.
“She certainly has the right to waive her bond hearing and that appears to be her decision based on [the attorney’s] statement,” the judge said. “We’ll wait to see if Ms. Lewis desires a bond hearing in the future. If she does, just let the court know.”
