Tucson, AZ (WBTW) — Coastal Carolina sophomore outfielder Parker Chavers was named aCollegiate Baseball National Player of the Week powered by Diamond Sports, the publication announced on Monday. He was one of 11 players nationwide to receive the weekly honor for his outstanding play for the week of Feb. 18-24.
Chavers led the offensive attack for the Chanticleers last week, recording 11 RBIs and a slugging percentage of .789 over the five-game span. The Montgomery, Ala. native hit .316 (6-for-19) with three home runs, a walk and two sacrifice flies.
In the doubleheader sweep of Michigan State on Feb. 22, Chavers was 4-for-6 with two home runs, two sacrifice flies and drove in seven RBIs, including a career-high five RBIs in the 12-5 game two win. He followed that performance up with a home run and four more RBIs in the 8-2 win over Kent State on Saturday, Feb. 23.
The Chanticleers (7-1) will hit the road for a midweek matchup versus the College of Charleston (6-1) on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 4 p.m. ET.
