Charge reduced for Kingstree student who reportedly brought weapon to school

KINGSTREE, SC (WBTW) – Kingstree Senior High School was placed on lock down Wednesday morning after a report that a student had a weapon on campus.

Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Alex Edwards says a male student was taken into police custody, and the lock down was lifted just before 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Kingstree Police Chief James Barr says 18-year-old Jaquan McFadden is charged with disturbing schools, a misdemeanor under South Carolina state law. The original charge of possession of a weapon on school premises, a felony, according to South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, was reduced after police discovered the weapon was a BB gun.

Online booking records say McFadden is currently being held at the Williamsburg County Detention center.
