MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – On Tuesday Chapin Memorial Library plans to hold a seminar on domestic abuse for teens in grades 6 through 12.
The “Love Shouldn’t Hurt” educational domestic abuse seminar will be hosted at Chapin Memorial Library on 14th Avenue North and offers snacks, a small craft and information on how to help stop or prevent abuse.
The event organizer says reaching children and teens is vital to changing the way people perceive and react to domestic violence in our state.
“If we can catch them in 6th or 7th, 8th, 9th grade before they’re in those abusive relationships, before they find out that that’s not normal. If we can stop it before they’re in those relationships, that’s the goal,” Library assistant Grace Matthews said.
October is Domestic Violence awareness month South Carolina now ranks fifth in the nation for women killed by men.
