MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) – Vacationers bringing boats to South Carolina’s Grand Strand are seeing some changes at Horry County boat landings.
The Sun News reports that new surveillance cameras have been installed at six of the county’s 28 boat landings. One of those landings is Peachtree Landing where Heather Elvis of Socastee was last seen in December of 2013.
There are also new restrictions on swimming, using personal watercraft and fishing near public landings.
Parks and recreation director Brent Taylor tells the newspaper that new signs are being put up restricting such activities near landings and floating docks. In some areas the restriction is for just a few feet from the landings. In others no swimming is allowed within 50 feet of the landings.
