MURRELLS INLET, S.C. (AP) – An annual ceremony remembering those lost at sea is being held in Murrells Inlet for Easter.
This marks the 10th year the ceremony is being held at the granite memorial that was erected back in 2006. The memorial at that time had 17 names, but now the number has grown to 30.
The memorial was established by the family of Johnny W. Brown who was a commercial fisherman from North Carolina. He died when a 30-foot wave struck his fishing boat off the North Carolina coast on April 2, 2005.
Ever since, a memorial observance for those lost at sea has been held in Murrells Inlet the first Sunday in April.
