CONWAY, S.C. (WBTW) – Coastal Carolina’s baseball team has brought national attention far beyond the diamond.

It’s more than the Chanticleer baseball team on the big stage. CCU social media is under the spotlight too.

“Our Facebook inbox our twitter direct messaging, all of our private social media outlets have been inundated with requests from people all over the country asking about Coastal Carolina University,” said Brent Reiser, social media and marketing coordinator for CCU.

In a week and a half there have been more than a million impressions. It’s anything from babies, socks. and dressed up dogs, to people you may have heard of before.

“Big name Twitter accounts have mentioned us and those include Carolina Panthers, you have Sports Center anchors, ESPN, David Nail who is a country music star, these twitter accounts have hundreds of thousands of followers sometimes millions,” said Resier.

Social media users are asking all sorts of questions but they all circle back to attention and money.

“They want to know how they can apply, how they can become a student athlete they want to know how they can buy our merchandise.”

Merchandise has been flying off the shelves in Omaha and in Conway. School officials say they hope to get their merchandise all over the globe.

“We want retailers all around to contact us and say we want to enter into an agreement with you and we want to get Coastal Carolina apparel in our stores, in our company, and on our shelves and we are going to do whatever we can to make that happen…we want teal nation to be literal.”

Employees at the school told me today their phones have been ringing off the hook since the road to Omaha started, they said they’ve been wanting to grow the university for years and this is one way they’re going to do it.
