CONWAY- The 2015 NFL Draft may be a little different this year for Coastal Carolina’s Quinn Backus, but he plans to treat it like he has in the past.

“I’m just going to have the same approach as when I was in college, just continue to watch the draft because it’s a once in a lifetime for a lot of people,” Backus said.

The difference this year- the former Coastal Carolina linebacker has a shot at making his dreams come true.

Backus says he expects to go as an undrafted free agent and find out his fate on Saturday. He says at this point, he’s just honored to have put himself in this position.

“I’m fortunate to get an opportunity for the next step and it’s just a matter of which team will invite me out and go from there,” Backus explained.

Since Coastal Carolina’s Palmetto Pro Day, Backus says he’s continued to work out and prepare for the draft. But now it’s a waiting game, and there’s no preparation for that.

“It’s been a long process, and just thinking about the next step the next career, whether it’s football or putting my degree to use but I’m looking forward to the draft,” Backus said.

While it’s his first time going through the process, he has plenty of footsteps to follow.

“It’s a great opportunity and I think the guys from my hometown and the guys that I played with here that kind of paved the way,” Backus said.

“To see those guys excel, it gives me this hope and motivation that hey, guys like Matt Hazel and Lorenzo Taliaferro paved the way to do well and make it to the next step.”
