CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – CCU police say they arrested a student Saturday in connection to 8 breaking and entering incidents and multiple drug charges after an altercation with officers where he tried to pull a gun.
On Saturday, officers responded to 146 Citadel Drive in reference to a suspicious vehicle. According to police reports, the address is also Hole 3 of the Hackler Golf Course. Officers report that a green Honda Accord was parked behind a large tree and “appeared to be positioned as if it were attempted to be concealed”.
While officers were on the scene, two men arrived on a golf cart, one of which who said that the car was his and he “did not mean to park it at this location”, the report says.
Police requested to search the car and when the suspect unlocked the drivers door, he tried to flee. The report says officers grabbed him by the waist and took him to the ground. Reports say that during the altercation, the suspect tried to reach into his front right pocket where officers retrieved a loaded revolver.
Police reports say the weapon was stolen, and a BB&T checkbook was found in the suspect’s front left pocket with a different name in it. When officers searched the car, they found a “vast amount of property confirmed to be stolen from multiple residences and automobiles throughout the area of Quail Creek Village”.
Reports also say police recovered 163 Xanax pills, plastic bags containing a white powdery substance that tested positive for MDMA, and a clear plastic bag with 2.3 grams of marijuana.
Officers say the man is a suspect in eight breaking and entering autos in the Quail Creek area.
A search of the man’s home yielded more Xanax and more bindles consistent with those found in the car.
Booking records from J Reuben Long say Lovequan Matthew Shaire Scott was charged with resisting arrest with a deadly weapon, MDP narcotic drugs, receiving stolen goods and sale or delivery of pistol.
According to Martha Hunn, Associate Vice President in the Office of Communication at CCU, Scott was restricted from campus upon notice of arrest. “This measure is taken during the University administrative process to protect all parties and the integrity of the investigation,” Hunn said.
According to J Reuben Long records, Scott was released Tuesday morning.
