Coastal Carolina University and SOS. Healthcare invited adults with disabilities and their families to learn about how to help find jobs and develop financial independence.

They held a forum on Coastal’s campus, and invited Donald Bailey, parent and author of Your Legacy of Care: Providing for Your Special Needs Child, to talk about the importance of financial planning for people with special needs. Coastal Carolina’s Life Program director discussed a new alumni career services program. The Life Program is an educational program for young adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities. SOS leaders also talked about Oak Tree Farm, the new affordable housing community for adults with autism. Construction is scheduled to being this summer. “We’re trying to prepare them and make sure they have all the information they need by bringing professionals together and sharing the information,” said SOS Executive Director Sarah Pope. “It’s very complex and we’re trying to make it a little easier for them to understand and know what to do.”

For those who were not able to attend the forum, SOS will upload the full recording of the event on its website. Click here for more information.
