CONWAY (AP) – Elijah Wilson had 18 points and six rebounds as Coastal Carolina picked up its first win, defeating Coppin State 89-59 on Wednesday night.

Wilson was 4 of 9 from the field – all from distance – for the Chanticleers (1-2). Jaylen Shaw and Joseph Williams-Powell added 13 points apiece, Demario Beck had 12 points and Amidou Bamba had 11 points and led the team with 13 rebounds. The team averaged 46 percent shooting from the field.

The Chanticleers took an early 16-0 lead on a jumper by Williams-Powell and led all the way, building to a 49-29 lead at the break.

Coppin State didn’t score a field goal till nearly five minutes into the second half and soon after, Wilson sank a 3-pointer that extended Coastal Carolina’s advantage to 67-36 with 14:26 to play.

Tre’ Thomas scored 23 points off the bench to lead the Eagles (0-3).
