NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – At least one suspect is in police custody after attempting to flee an Horry County Police officer trying to make a traffic stop Thursday afternoon.
Lt. Raul Denis with Horry County Police says an officer was attempting to make a traffic stop around 4:50 p.m. near Sea Mountain Highway when the driver began to speed up, refusing to stop.
The officer chased the driver for a short distance, when the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed near Hill Street and Sea Mountain Highway. North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety says emergency crews have cleared the scene and roads by Hill St. and Sea Mountain Highway are open.
According to Horry County Fire Rescue, four victims were transported to the hospital, two of which were small children.
Lt. Denis says the suspect is in custody at this time. It is not known how many other vehicles may be involved in the crash or the extent of injuries from the wreck.
