CARTHAGE, N.C. — A woman riding a horse was hit by a car outside of Carthage late Monday afternoon.
The crash happened on Star Ridge Road off of NC Hwy 22 just before 6 p.m. on Monday, according to the Aberdeen Times.
The woman who was riding the horse was injured in the accident.
She was treated at the scene before being transported by ambulance to FirstHealth Hospital in Pinehurst with injuries that were reported to be not life threatening. Monday night, the woman victim was conscious and alert at FirstHealth and was undergoing a CT scan.
The horse, named Ali, was also injured in the wreck. A veterinarian responded to the scene to assist the injured animal.
On Monday night, Ali was reported to need many stitches, a treatment of antibiotics and plenty of healing time. Ali is expected to recover.
Star Ridge Road was temporarily closed to traffic in both directions while the injured victim was assisted. No one in the passenger car was injured.
Carthage Fire and Rescue, Moore County EMS, Moore County Public Safety, Moore County Sheriff’s Department and the NC State Highway Patrol responded to the scene.
The cause of the collision is under investigation.
