MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. –Hundreds on the Grand Strand celebrated ” National Cancer Survivors Day” on Saturday.
The Carolina Cancer Foundation and Coastal Cancer Center teamed up for “The Stars of Hope” event at the Base Recreation Center in Myrtle Beach.
It was a chance for local survivors and those close to them to get together and celebrate life.
Pancreatic cancer survivor Ray Schulz was diagnosed a year and a half ago, and after intensive treatment, is thankful for those that saw him through his journey to recovery.
“I figured my days were over. I could almost taste the dirt in my mouth, but my wife, Kimberly Schulz, took extremely good care of me. All of the doctors, and nurses and all the close friends who gave beautiful, deep prayers has gotten my threw it and i am thankful for everybody.”
Organizers say more than 200 cancer survivors, care givers, family and friends gathered for Saturday’s event.
