LORIS, SC – Camp Pride Program completed its second and final summer camp for this year, this one at Loris Middle School. This year’s other camp was held at St. James Middle School. Together, the camps had 46 children attend this year.
Camp Pride is a three-week day camp for 11- to 15-year-olds hosted by the Horry County Police Department and made possible by the generosity of local businesses, citizens, the Government of Horry County and the Horry County School District.
The camp is free of charge to every child and the only requirement is that the child is dropped off and picked up daily, at 8:00 a.m. and 4 p.m. respectively. The camp is staffed by Horry County Police School Resource Officers who interact with the children by providing presentations, activities, and even field trips during the camp.
The mission of Camp Pride is to develop discipline, resourcefulness, and teamwork in each camper through a highly-structured, educational, and adventurous camp experience. Campers learn the principles of Privilege, Respect, Independence, Diligence, and Excellence through individual effort and role modeling. Parents have the opportunity to help shape the camp experience for their child by expressing specific goals for individual’s camp objectives.
