Myrtle Beach, SC (WBTW) — Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Cal Ripken Jr. was on the Grand Strand Sunday to open up this week’s youth baseball tournament at the Ripken Experience.

Ripken met with teams throughout the day for pictures before handing out some awards at the opening ceremonies and speaking to the players and parents in attendance before throwing out the ceremonial first pitch.

This year will be the 14th year of operation for the Ripken Experience as they prepare to host youth baseball tournaments from now until the end of July. Each week a different MLB veteran will be in attendance like Ozzie Smith, Mike Sweeney, Michael Cuddyer and Florence native Reggie Sanders among others.

Teams travel from as far as Melbourne, Australia to play in the tournaments.
