Businesses in Nichols struggle to reopen after Hurricane Matthew

NICHOLS, S.C. (WBTW) – While small businesses nationwide are open and selling items, small businesses in Nichols are slowly reopening after many of them were flooded after Hurricane Matthew.

Of the twenty two businesses in the Town three are now open.

The Nichols Farm Supply reopened after Hurricane Matthew flooded majority of the Town.

The owners say the family business started in the 1940s. They hope to continue serving local farmers for many more years.

The same owners own the Town car wash, which is also now back up again.

Sarah Devers, Co- owner of Nichols Farm Supply and car wash said, “It feels like we’re making progress, since we have two businesses back up and running. We are working own others… it just takes time in our struggling little town.”

Many of the businesses did not have flood insurance. Devers says they need investors to help businesses in the Town get back up and running.
